Broadcast Channel Changes in Regional 7QLD
Channel changes
Over the coming months, Seven will be upgrading broadcast technology across regional Queensland. These changes may require that your TV is re-tuned to reflect those updates.
Part of these changes require the transition from MPEG2 technology to MPEG4.
MPEG4 enables broadcasters to improve the quality of the services they deliver to meet consumer demand.
The changes are as follows:
- Channel 7 (Channel 6 in Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast), will be converting from HD (MPEG2) to HD (in MPEG4).
It is important to note that 7two and 7mate in Queensland are both broadcast in HD (MPEG4) so if you can already see these channels your TV will access the change to Channel 7.
Will I need to re-tune my TV?
Changes should automatically appear in the channel list of most TVs. If not, then the first thing to do is to re-scan your TV.
Most TVs have an option to automatically re-scan channels within the TV menu. In many cases, the channel changes will appear after completing this process. If you are unsure how to re-scan channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV.
About MPEG4 (version 10)
All major recognised brands of televisions, set top boxes and Personal Video Recorders (PVR's) purchased since 2009, including any devices bearing the Freeview logo, will have this capability, but those bought prior to 2009 may not support MPEG4 (version 10). Some old receivers which have not been compatible during the introduction of the MPEG4 (version 10) service have included: -
- Schaub Lorenz Televisions
- Baumann Meyer Televisions
- NEC and Sherwood (re-badged NEC) Televisions
- Next Wave PVR's.
If you are unsure if your current TV supports MPEG4 (version 10), you will need to refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV. If you’re unsure how to re-scan channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV.
How do I know if my TV doesn't support MPEG4 (version 10)?
TVs that do not support MPEG4 (version 10) are most likely to demonstrate the following behaviour:
Channels may appear in the channel list; however, the picture is black and the sound may or may not be heard.
