Most problems with TV reception come from antennas or cabling which are faulty or may not have been installed correctly.
You should check:
- Antennas
- Cables, fly leads and connections
- TV or set-top box receivers
- Signal boosters/masthead amplifiers
Item checklist:
- Ensure there is no corrosion or damage to your antenna, that it is externally roof-mounted and pointed towards the correct transmitter for your location.
- Make sure water is not finding its way into your cabling. Water ingress can often impact reception capabilities.
- Spiderwebs - if they're on your antenna and it is safe to do so, clear them away.
- Broadcast signals can be absorbed by trees and foliage - if you have these obstructions, your antenna set-up needs to take that into account.
- Make sure that your cable connectors between TV and wall outlet are in good condition - no kinks or exposed wires - and make sure that the cables are tightly connected at either end.
