TV antennas can be damaged by bad weather or birds and other wildlife. Typically, antennas last 10-15 years.
Common problems with antennas which can affect your television reception include:
- Broken, rusty or missing parts
- The incorrect type of antenna for your location, or having multiple antennas
- Not having your antenna at the correct height
- Having your antenna located in the wrong location on your roof
Antennas need to be:
- Of the correct type for the channel frequencies in your location
- Of the correct ‘gain’ – this determines how much the antenna can amplify weak signals
- In the correct position on your roof and pointing in the correct direction
- In good condition
- Set up properly
You should not have more than one antenna on your roof. Broken or legacy antennas should be removed.
Adding more antennas or using an indoor antenna (rabbit ears), can make reception problems worse.
In instances where you are unable to correct the issue yourself, or believe your antenna may be the issue, we recommend having an experienced local antenna specialist inspect your antenna.
